My design represents my life recently, particularly the past few weeks since I came to Abuja for my NYSC service year.
Coming here felt like stepping onto a new road, but what I quickly realized was that it wasn’t just one road. It was many. Different paths appeared almost immediately, each one leading to a different possible destination. Opportunities, uncertainties, responsibilities, and ambitions all started to intersect at the same point in my life.
And at the center of that intersection is me.
Standing at this crossroads sometimes feels strange. It’s almost like watching my own life from the outside, as if there’s a fourth wall separating me from the moment. I can see the possibilities in front of me, the different directions I could take, yet I sometimes wonder: am I truly moving forward, or am I just standing still in the middle of it all?
There are days I question myself deeply. What if this moment is my own version of a rat race? What if I’m sitting at the center of these roads simply thinking about the journeys I could take, instead of actually stepping into one and moving?
Sometimes the quiet voice in my head says, “just manage”, and then the phrase “Yakubu, manage!” echoes in my mind; a reminder of how easily people can settle, adapt, and continue moving even when things feel uncertain.
But beneath all those thoughts lies the biggest question I’ve been asking myself lately:
“What am I doing right now?”
This design captures that feeling; the crossroads, the stillness in the middle, and the quiet tension between uncertainty and possibility. It reflects a period of reflection, where the paths ahead are visible, but the courage to choose and move forward is still being discovered.
