I Had a Muse was born from a season where creating no longer felt effortless. As an artist, I had always believed inspiration was something I possessed, until I realized it was something I had to fight to find again. The film explores the quiet grief of losing your creative voice and the courage it takes to search for it, even when you don’t know if it will return. It asks a simple question: Who are we when the thing that defines us disappears?

This project begins in my hometown of Southern Kaduna, where I am documenting traditions that have shaped my own identity and community. From there, my vision is to expand across Northern Nigeria and, ultimately, contribute to a broader global conversation about cultural heritage. By preserving these moments through photography, I hope not only to document living traditions but also to foster appreciation, understanding, and pride in our shared cultural legacy.
